Male Nurses` Images of Male Students in Nursing University

Abstract
While the numbers of males entering nursing university is increasing, the whole issue of research on male nursing students is a relatively recent undertaking. The purpose of this study was to identify the images of men as nurses held by male nursing students, and to provide basic data about the desirability of nursing as a career choice for them. Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used: The 45 male nursing students classified 31 selected Q-statements into a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. The collected data were analyzed by the pc-QUANL program. Among the male nursing students, three types of images of men as nurses were identified. Type ; Blueprint confident type, Type ; Afterimage ¥° ¥± possessed, Type ¥²; Expected an image of the future type. The results of this study suggested that specific strategies should be developed to promote the choice of nursing among male nursing students.
